For Indian importers & overseas suppliers

Import freight to India.
Plan before cargo leaves.

A useful import plan connects the supplier, the freight and the people receiving your goods. Get the documents, responsibilities and arrival arrangements aligned before dispatch—not after the cargo lands.

Freight coordination.
Clear responsibility.

Jaguar Logistics coordinates sea and air freight, provider hand-offs and agreed India-side services through its Indore operations team. Origin arrangements, the gateway and onward delivery are confirmed for each shipment.

This is general operational guidance. The importer and qualified advisers establish import eligibility, classification, registrations, licences, duties and compliance requirements. Customs coordination is through authorised specialists; a freight quotation is not a regulatory approval.

Different parties.
One agreed movement.

Use this as a planning conversation. The sales contract, Incoterm and accepted freight scope determine the actual responsibilities.

One cargo description.
Consistent documents.

Check the documents together. A complete pack depends on the goods, transaction and applicable requirements—not simply a standard list.

Commercial invoice

Match the seller, buyer, goods, value, currency and agreed terms to the actual transaction. Resolve unclear descriptions with the supplier.

Packing list

Confirm package count, marks, dimensions and gross/net weight. Identify pallets, crates and any non-stackable or special-handling cargo.

Bill of lading or air waybill

Check shipper, consignee, notify-party and cargo details. Agree the applicable release arrangement; a document copy alone may not authorise release.

Import filing & supporting records

The importer and appointed customs specialist establish the applicable Bill of Entry information, declarations, registrations and commodity-specific documents.

Ask the appointed specialist whether origin evidence, permits, testing, product approvals or other supporting records are needed for your goods. Declare batteries, liquids, restricted goods and special handling at the enquiry stage.

Do the checking
before the waiting.

These six checks help the parties prepare for release and delivery. They do not guarantee clearance, a sailing or an arrival date.

  1. Check document consistency

Reconcile the invoice, packing list and B/L or AWB. Share the complete pack with the responsible parties early enough to resolve differences.

  2. Confirm the arrival hand-off

Identify the Indian gateway, nominated agent or provider, consignee contact and who receives arrival updates. An ETA is a planning estimate, not a release appointment.

  3. Separate release requirements

Ask what the carrier or agent requires for document release and what the customs specialist needs for clearance. One does not replace the other.

  4. Review local charges & free time

Confirm destination handling, storage and applicable equipment terms, including when time starts, what is allowed and who pays. Do not assume these match the origin quotation.

  5. Prepare the receiving site

Give the delivery address and PIN code, access restrictions, receiving hours and unloading arrangements. For FCL, confirm empty-container return instructions.

  6. Agree the exception contact

Identify who can approve changed delivery arrangements, provide missing documents or resolve a charge query without waiting for the next hand-off.

Look beyond the freight line

Know what your
import quote includes.

Separate overseas pickup and handling, international freight, Indian destination charges, customs-related services and final delivery. Identify duties and taxes, exclusions, validity and the party paying each item.

For containers, also confirm storage and equipment terms. For LCL or air cargo, check the accepted measurement or chargeable-weight basis and any minimum charges.

Compare freight quotes on the same basis

Start with the route.
Bring the cargo details.

You do not need every answer to start a discussion. Tell us which details are provisional so we can identify what still needs confirmation.

Before you book.

Can Jaguar coordinate an import into India from an overseas supplier?

Yes. Send the supplier’s country and pickup address, Indian destination, cargo details and agreed Incoterm. Our Indore team reviews the origin, freight and India-side services requested with the relevant providers. Collection and delivery availability are confirmed for the shipment, not assumed for every location.

Who acts as the importer of record?

The transaction must identify the responsible importer and their applicable registrations and obligations. Jaguar’s freight coordination does not automatically make Jaguar the importer of record. Confirm the role with the buyer, seller and qualified customs adviser before dispatch.

Does a freight quote include Indian import duties and taxes?

Not unless the accepted proposal explicitly says so. Ask for international freight, destination handling, customs-related services, duties, taxes and delivery to be identified separately. The amount and treatment of duties or taxes require shipment-specific assessment by the responsible qualified adviser.

Can I ask for a quote before all my import documents are ready?

Yes. Start with the route, commodity, packed dimensions, weight, readiness and service scope. Flag information that is still provisional. A planning quotation is not confirmation of import eligibility, carrier acceptance, clearance or booking; those checks must be completed by the responsible parties.

Does vessel or flight arrival mean the goods can be delivered immediately?

No. Arrival, cargo availability, carrier or agent release, customs clearance and delivery are separate milestones. Handling, document action, inspections and local arrangements can affect the next step. Arrange a receiving slot against confirmed release and transport information rather than ETA alone.

Can an overseas seller request delivery to an Indian customer?

Yes. Include the customer’s complete address, receiving contact and the agreed delivery terms. The quote should identify the importer, clearance responsibilities, duties and taxes, unloading and the final-delivery scope. A door-delivery request does not by itself establish a DDP arrangement.

Check the official requirements.

Use current official information alongside advice for your particular goods. The resources below support compliance checks; they do not replace the importer’s or appointed specialist’s assessment.
